A certified clinical medical assistant is a multi-skilled allied healthcare professional that specializes in procedures commonly performed in a healthcare setting like hospitals, clinics, urgent care centers, and doctors’ offices. Medical assistants perform both clinical and administrative duties and assist a variety of providers including physicians,nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.
Common duties of a medical assistant include administrative and clinical tasks like:
1. Checking patient vital signs (Blood pressure,Temperature, Pulse, and Respiration)
2. Checking patients in and out upon arrival and departure
3. Answering telephone calls and other related questions
4. Assisting Doctors and Nurse Practitioners with physical examinations and other procedures
5. Administering medication and injections
6. Working in the electronic health record Department (EHRD)
7. Performing EKG, phlebotomy, and other laboratory procedures
