Sierra Leone Nursing Education
Faculty of Health Sciences
Nursing as a career field is one of the highest demanded occupations globally. Home Health Aides, Nurse Aides and Medication Aides play a critical role in the health care system, and there are projections that 2,000,000 + more jobs will be available for nurses and nursing support programs between 2024 and 2034 (which is an employment growth rate of 18+ percent, higher than most occupations).

Home Health Aide Certificate – HHAC-
The Home Health Aide (HHA) Training Program is designed to prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and professional values necessary to provide compassionate and competent care to clients in their homes or community-based settings. This comprehensive program emphasizes patient-centered care, safety, and effective communication while fostering the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Students will learn essential caregiving techniques including assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), monitoring vital signs, supporting nutrition and meal preparation, infection control practices, mobility and transfer assistance, basic home management, and providing emotional and social support to clients and their families.
Certified Medication Aide Technician – CMA
The Certified Medication Aide/Technician (CMA/MT) Training Program is designed to prepare students to safely administer routine medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse in long-term care facilities, assisted living centers, and other healthcare settings. This program builds on basic caregiving knowledge and provides specialized training in pharmacology, medication administration, and documentation procedures.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program prepares students with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills to provide safe, compassionate, and effective care for patients in hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, and private homes. This comprehensive program focuses on the fundamentals of nursing care, emphasizing communication, professionalism, patient rights, and respect for cultural diversity.
Students will develop competence in assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), measuring vital signs, infection control practices, mobility and transfer techniques, nutrition support, personal care, and reporting observations to nurses and other healthcare professionals. Through classroom instruction, skills laboratory practice, and supervised clinical experience, students will gain the confidence and readiness required for the state competency examination.
Information Technology
The Diploma in Information Technology program provides a comprehensive foundation in computer hardware, networking, cybersecurity, and advanced IT infrastructure. Designed for aspiring IT professionals, the curriculum combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical skills to prepare students for industry-recognized certifications, including CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Cybersecurity, Cisco CCNA, CCNP, and Cisco CyberOps.

USA - Allied Healthcare
This is the segment of the health care field “that delivers services involving the identification, evaluation and prevention of diseases and disorders; dietary and nutrition services; and rehabilitation and health systems management.”
These Programs encompasses a broad group of health care professionals who use scientific principles and evidence-based practice for the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of acute and chronic diseases; promote disease prevention and wellness for optimum health and apply administration and management skills to support patients.

Human Resource Development
